| Where's
Old Crow? |
KOTV,
channel 6 in Tulsa, Oklahoma is the only news station I have ever
seen, either in Oklahoma or Washington, that shows Old Crow's
temperatures during their broadcast. They will often mention Old
Crow when the temperatures get really low, such as -31° F.
Sometimes Old Crow will appear on the screen if an arctic blast
is being shown heading down from Canada.
On
January 14th, 2005, Jim Giles, the chief meteorologist, delivered
the local weather and mentioned that Old Crow was at -51°
F! Old Crow made the Oklahoma news!
Later,
when KOTV was showing some local weather watcher pictures, I got
to thinking that since they've been commenting on Old Crow, that
a picture from Old Crow might be really fun to see. Putting Old
Crow on a map for a temperature reference is one thing...but putting
an image with the name is another.
I checked to see if anyone from Old Crow was online who could
tell me how they were handling the cold. I found Tammy Josie,
who is Paul's assistant over in Information Systems. I met her
in Seattle when she flew down for the walk to Washington D.C.
kickoff. We chatted:

I was surprised
at her eagerness to help, and that it she had a chance to go out
for a smoke! LOL!!!
I
emailed KOTV and told them about my connection with Old Crow and
said that I had some photos that had just been taken. I made sure
to tell them to give credit to Tammy Josie in Old Crow. They were
eager to see what -51 below looked like.
On January
18th, during the weather portion of the 5:00 broadcast, Jim Giles
referenced Old Crow again. "Talking cold -- 51 below zero
in Old Crow." Then after he finished with the weather he
went to the segment where they show a weather pic. "This
picture comes from Old Crow, Alaska. [WHAT? Whoopsy....hehe] ....
Andrea MacMullin of the Tulsa area has a very good friend, a young
lady in Old Crow. Her name is Tammy Josie, and she's a young native
lady there. She sent this picture and it was 3:45 in the afternoon."
