Sarcoidosis

My cutaneous sarcoidosis

Photos taken 2008

Right upper arm. The biopsy scar (2001) is still visible in the middle of the upper sarcoid. Here we have some plaques and nodules. The plaques are described as indurated. The nodules look the same but are deep in the dermis and can be felt as solid mass.
They start out as a tiny colorless lump under the skin. As they grow, they become small, round, solid and purple. If they grow enough they lose their shape a little. The older plaques have dissapated a little. Still annular (round), but with clearing and soft in the center, leaving a hard ring of granulomas on the outside. I have a combination of old and new nodules.

Left upper arm

Upper lip: Sarcoidosis lesion. Appeared just below the border of my upper lip in 2005. I thought it was just a pimple or cold sore but it never went away. It is hard and thick but doesn't feel like a nodule. It has increased in size, and the skin above the lip border is slightly red and tightened. I hate it! Lipstick doesn't cover it because its still a lump!

Nose: Similar to my arms, a plaque has formed on my nose. Its solid but not too hard. Doesn't obstruct or hurt. This type of plaque on the nose is specifically referred to as lupus pernio, just because it is on the nose (was told this by a dermatologist). I can cover the purpleness of it with mineral makeup but can not hide that it is raised.

HOW CAN I HELP?

There is NO CURE for sarcoidosis, and the cause is unknown. Researchers must have funding to find answers.

You can do it! Try donating to something other than breast cancer, MS, AIDS, and heart disease.
You'll feel just as great for helping with this one! (and you'll be helping me as well)
