Meredith Cooper

I started playing violin at the age of six years old. I studied classical violin with Galina Heifetz at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College for seven years. After graduating, I received a music education degree from Oberlin Conservatory, where I studied classical violin with Marilyn McDonald. I began work on recording the CD "Journey," with classical guitarist Scott McAllister, exploring improvisation, Irish styles, and writing/arranging violin parts for several pieces with Scott.

In 1998 I moved to Cambridge, MA and joined the rock band The Shelley Winters Project (led by Rick Berlin, Windjam Records) in 1999, playing violin and singing back-up vocals. I opened a private string studio for adult string students and began teaching both classical and improvisatory styles of playing.

I have recorded and performed with such Boston musicians as Peter C. Johnson, Paula Kelley, Holt Hopkins, The Collisions, Don Lennon, Dave Aaronoff & the Details and Star Hustler. I also am a member of The Red Line String Quartet, playing wedding gigs and recording projects for local musicians.

"Meredith plays a Tucker Barrett EV-5 Luma 5-string electric violin and a blue carbon-fiber bow. She uses a Boss GT-3 Guitar Effects Processor and a Crate Acousitc 125-D amplifier."
