TO
BE FAIR, THESE ARE MY ANTI-SKILLS:
- I
have never set up a computer network. I understand the concepts
and have read about it, but I have never set one up or watched
one being set up. I have added a network printer to a computer,
however.
-
"Familiar," up at the top, means I've tinkered with
it or taken a tutorial. It does not mean I have experience or
any level of success at the application. I have only barely touched
Flash, PHP, and DHTML. However, I have used applications or similar
programs and given my learning curve, I am confident that given
the directive, I would rise to the occasion and learn what needed
to be learned, as I always have.
- XML:
At RealNetworks, the Roxen web servers had a proprietary xml called
RXML. Since leaving Real, I've gone over online XML tutorials
and it seems that the practice of cleaning up the code by declaring
your own custom tags and then calling on them to insert data is
the same basic concept. I know the rules are slightly different
but I understand the fundamentals of how it works. I've read up
on it and think I could pick it up pretty fast in applied use.
- Hardware:
I can install cards and follow directions. I have never built
a computer from ground zero.
- Programming:
I am not a hard core programmer. I do not know PERL,
C++, SQL, JAVA, VB, etc. I do not engineer software. I do write
scripting code for websites and tweak others' code.
- Servers:
I have dinked around on an IIS but did not administrate it. I
was able to change privileges and small stuff, but I did not configure
it. I have not had experience with Apache, or any other servers.
- Last
but not least -- I am a violinist, not a physicist. I have very
good mechanical and abstract reasoning skills. I am creative,
yet mechanically inclined. Take that for what its worth.
Why
would I share this with you? Its easy. In this long list of experiences,
one could make assumptions about what I did not include. I assure
you, however, that this list is complete. I will swear under oath
that every single thing on this page is the truth. Things that do
not appear have not been omitted. I do not want to waste someone's
time on the assumption that I am a jack-of-all-trades. I am not.
I have my weaknesses and its only fair to both you and me that you
make a reality-based assessment.
